From Layoffs to Liftoff: Empowering Zoomers for Success in the AI-Influenced Gig Economy
Generation Z is charting a different path, one deeply entwined with the gig economy and influenced by AI. In this shifting landscape, the traditional employer-employee loyalty is evolving, with both sides exhibiting a readiness for change.
Long before the advent of ChatGPT, I involved my kids in my product development endeavors. While they were more observers than active participants, they gained insights into customer service, the complexities of shipping, and the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. They also witnessed my journey back in the corporate world.
So, how do I prepare them for this new landscape? Firstly, I lead by example, showcasing creativity in product and brand development. I encourage them to brainstorm their own ideas for products and services, fostering their interests without pressure. It’s crucial for them to use their brains actively, especially as I observe the education system increasingly promoting minimal intellectual engagement.
I also promote the spirit of entrepreneurship, instilling the belief that it’s beneficial to always have a side project or venture. If entrepreneurship doesn’t resonate with them, I suggest considering trades like electrician, mechanic, or carpenter, which are less likely to be automated. Although corporate jobs might still be available, relying solely on them isn’t advisable.
In essence, my goal is to ensure that they keep thinking critically and creatively. By doing so, I am confident that they can look forward to a bright and successful future, regardless of the career path they choose.
