‘The Terminator’ Movie Review – Zoomers’ View of Future with AI
Having grown up amidst the chill of the Cold War, under the looming threat of a nuclear apocalypse, and later navigating the impending technological meltdown predicted by Y2K, it’s intriguing that it’s taken us 23 years to contemplate the next significant global threat. When I first watched ‘The Terminator’ in the 1980’s, its dystopian portrayal of Artificial Intelligence seemed more fantastical than feasible. However, today’s world paints a different picture.
As a parent, I’ve begun to discuss with my children the impact that AI could have on their future, highlighting its potential to bring about positive change. Yet, I believe it’s equally important to underscore the challenges and concerns associated with this transformative technology. Hence, I decided to introduce them to this cinema classic, albeit with a touch of parental moderation and the occasional fast-forwarding of intense scenes. And thus, my three kids, all under the age of 14, delved into the world of ‘The Terminator’.
Please remember, the intent behind this was to make it enjoyable and instructive, rather than intimidating and fear-inducing. Ultimately, the goal is to positively embrace the future. They all immediately asked to watch the next one.
